Opening Hours and Appointments
The University Archive reading room is open to the public Tuesday-Friday 10.00-12.30 and 13.30-16.00 by appointment.ย
We are now booking external researcher appointments but are operating at reduced capacity.
Please email archive@westminster.ac.uk to arrange an appointment.
Regulations of Access
Provision of access to the University Archive is based on principles that ensure that access to our records and facilities is consistent and fair to all users and in line with professional best practice and relevant legislation. Please see our Access Policy for more information.
Researchers visiting the Archive for the first time are required to provide photographic ID and to complete a registration form.
Researchers are required to follow our Regulations for Access
Photography and Copying
Researchers are welcome to take photos with a mobile device or camera for personal use only. You will be asked to sign a Copyright Declaration Form.

Genealogy Enquiries
We are happy to answer family history enquiries. Please note that the surviving records of the University of Westminster and its predecessor bodies are incomplete, and therefore it may not be possible to verify staff employment details or student attendance.
If you are looking for someone who attended or worked at the Polytechnic between 1879-1960 they may be mentioned in the Polytechnic Magazine which has been digitised and is available here.
Records containing personal data about an individual will be closed for a period of up to 100 years in compliance with data protection legislation (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
Applications to access restricted records must be submitted by completing a Researcher Access Request Form, emailed to archive@westminster.ac.uk. Please see our Access Policy for further information.
Data Protection and Freedom of Information
The University’s institutional records are generally closed for a 30 year period following their creation and access will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Head of University Records and Archives, in consultation, as appropriate, with the Chief Operating Officer and the Information Compliance team. Applications to access restricted records must be submitted by completing a Researcher Access Request Form. Please email archive@westminster.ac.uk for more details.
Information that is exempt from disclosure under FOI may be witheld. Researchers are entitled to apply for access to such material under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 by submitting an FOI Request.
